A friend of mine asked me to write a blogpost on finances for his Facebook group Kingdom Economics. I don’t consider myself the expert on this, but I can confidently say that I have seen God bring supernatural provision many times when I needed it! So I’m happy to share some of my thoughts on prosperity dynamics in the Kingdom by talking about the prosperous soul.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. – Jeremiah 29:11

First of all, God wants you to prosper in life. Most of us probably already know this verse from the book of Jeremiah. God has a hopeful future for you, and not just that, but real tangible plans to prosper YOU. He wants you to prosper for real! And we can see this in scripture in so many places where God made the righteous prosper as they walked with Him.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. – 3 John 1:2

One of the Kingdom dynamics I want to talk about today is the prosperous soul. John writes here that we prosper and be in health when our soul prospers. Just as there are natural laws in the earth like gravity, there are also supernatural laws that God has set in place to govern the universe. One of these laws is the law of attraction. This law plays a big role in what our soul creates in our lives.

You may have heard not just in the new age, but also in many other places about positivity thinking, feeling good about ourselves and having a positive attitude to be successful. These are good things that are used with the purpose to make your soul prosper. It makes us feel good about ourselves and brings us into a positive state to attract positive things. When your soul is in that prosperous state, according to the law of attraction you will attract prosperous things! You attract what you are, or what you believe in your heart that you are.

Your soul is not prospering when you are thinking negatively about yourself and feeling condemned by others, because of your sins or failures. Low self-worth, self-pity, and a victim mindset do not really help your soul. There is nothing prosperous about living in shame, fear, guilt, and condemnation. In the world, they have enough dodo’s that help you shift your soul out of that negativity into positivity that their soul may prosper. It is based on works and they try to build themselves righteousness that Christ has already given to us freely.

Now, this is where the gospel comes in! I LOVE the gospel and especially how it is described in the book of Romans. I get so drunk in the Spirit when I reread those chapters! The gospel makes my soul prosper as it awakens me of who I am as a new creation and my glorious union with Christ. God wants us not to live out of our own righteousness built by all the dodo’s to make ourselves holy and feeling good about ourselves. He wants us to awaken to His righteousness, freely given, imparted to us, and fully sustained by Christ!

You see, a lot of this with the prosperous soul is that it has a lot to do with our identity. All this fear, shame, guilt, and condemnation can become an identity that causes your soul to be rooted in the sinful nature. But PRAISE GOD you died with Christ on that cross and no longer live! You are co-crucified, co-buried, co-raised, co-seated, and co-heir with Christ. Get the picture? You have been united with Christ and are one Spirit with Him, because of the cross!

if you are pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your prosperous state. – Job 8:6

Your union with Christ has given you a new identity for your soul to be rooted and grounded in His righteousness and holy joyful nature. The joyful soul, the thankful soul, the praiseful soul, the joy of the Lord is my strength. You are so one with Christ that when you accept this in your soul as your true identity, there is an awakening to a prosperous state in your soul that you already are in Him! Do you remember all the blessings in heavenly places?

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. – Ephesians 1:3

It is all about living from your union with Christ and being in Him that brings our soul into a prosperous state that attracts prosperous realities in our lives. You are the righteousness of God and now, in Him you live, move, and have your being.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life]. – 2 Cor 5:17 AMP

As we know who we are, being one with Christ, we can now choose to also walk with Him. We awaken to the righteousness of God in us that is sustained not by what we do, but what HE has done for us. And out of this free gift and as a new creation we know our works will bring good fruit causing us to prosper! Just like Paul in the first chapters in the book of Romans, reminds us of our identity in Christ, having died and now raised into a new life, he also reminds us now as a new creation in chapter 8 to also walk with God’s Spirit. And it is in the walking with Him, through real relationship and fellowship with God that He guides our steps with His plans to prosper us in all things.

‘So now, beloved ones, stand firm, stable, and enduring. Live your lives with an unshakable confidence. We know that we prosper and excel in every season by serving the Lord, because we are assured that our union with the Lord makes our labor productive with fruit that endures.’
1 Corinthians 15:58 TPT
